Sam Etcheverry, #92
Nicknamed “The Rifle” due to the power and accuracy of his passes, Sam Etcheverry was one of the most remarkable players in CFL and Alouettes history.
Douglas “Peahead” Walker, Alouettes head coach at the time, recruited Etcheverry after he saw a photo of him in a university football magazine. Etcheverry was starting quarterback in 1952, and also played kicker and linebacker.
He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1969 and his uniform number, 92, has been retired by the Alouettes in 1996.
