Johnny Rodgers, #20

Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers was picked by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft. Yet against all expectations, Rodgers decided to join the Alouettes, who convinced him to come play for them in the CFL. This made him the first player to sign a contract for more than 100,000 dollars a season.

Rodgers, who was nicknamed “Ordinary Superstar” in Montreal, was picked as the league’s Most Outstanding Rookie of the Year in his first season with the Als. The following season, he helped the Alouettes win the Grey Cup.
